Timothy Franklin Hetzel, 59 of Malvern, Iowa passed away July 29, 2021 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born on February 4, 1962 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Jesse Franklin and Marlys Jean (Dalton) Hetzel.

Following high school, Tim attended trade school for auto mechanics. He was united in marriage to Darla Denise Eastwood on June 9, 1984 in Red Oak, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, Trevan and Tyler. The family resided in Glenwood before moving to their home in the country.

Tim worked as an auto technician in Tabor, Council Bluffs and Omaha for 40 years. His dream came true when he opened his motorcycle repair shop full time at home.

Tim was an avid off-road motorcycle rider. He shared that passion with his sons and many other cyclists in the Hetzel Racing Motorcycle Family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many people. Tim and Darla enjoyed riding bicycles together. He loved sitting around his fire pit every night. He was a great storyteller and loved spending time with his family. Every Sunday evening the family would gather at Tim and Darla’s house for dinner and family time. Tim was a member of the Vine Street Bible Church for 37 years. His strong faith was a true testament in the way he lived his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceding Tim in passing were his grandparents and mother. Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Darla Hetzel; sons Trevan (Katelyn) Hetzel and their sons Ryder and Reid; Tyler (Carolyn) Hetzel; father Jesse Hetzel, all of Malvern, Iowa; brothers Ted (Angie) Hetzel of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Todd (Kari) Hetzel of Glenwood, Iowa; extended relatives and friends.

I was truly saddened to hear about Tim. He was a kind man and had a great sense of humor. His May Day “baskets” brought joy and they both still sit on my desk, with 1 of the roses in it.
Prayer of comfort and strength for you all during this time.

Tim was an extraordinary man. He made an impact on the Class of 1980. He was funny and always had a funny story to tell. Years later he made a huge impact on my nephews, my brothers and my Grandnephew Brock. No doubt Tim has already found a place in Heaven to ride motorcycles. Race on Tim!

My Condolences to Darla and family. Had some of the best times of my life racing motorcycle enduros with Tim back in the late 80’s & 90’s. We usually took our wives (Darla and my wife Alice) along for support in our travels around the state. Tim was a great person who was always fun and willing to help out in any way he could. He was a great person and will be dearly missed.

Tim’s faith and his devotion to Darla and his family impressed me the most. I wish I could have met him in person and sat around the fire and heard his stories. So I pray that God will hold Darla and the family in his arms and carry them close to his heart.
