Mary Kathleen Bruce

Services: Wednesday, September 28, 2022, 10:30 A.M., Peterson Mortuary, 212 S. Locust Street, Glenwood, Iowa.

Mary Kathleen Bruce, 98 of Hastings, Iowa was born December 11, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Ernest and Marie Boyce. She passed away September 23, 2022 in Red Oak, Iowa. Following high school, Mary attended formal training to become a teacher. She was united in marriage to Keith Edwin Bruce on February 14, 1946. To this union two children were born, David and Kay.

The family resided on a farm where they had a large cattle operation. Mary worked hard along side her husband and always brought them cheeseburgers to the men in the field. In her earlier days she was very seldom at home because she traveled with Keith to cattle sales mainly to South Dakota and Colorado. Unfortunately, Keith was not successful trying to get her to drive the cattle truck. She remained happy in the passenger seat and never missed a chance to ride along. Mary also enjoyed shopping and being with her family.

Preceding Mary in passing were her parents, husband Keith and sister Aileen May. Survivors include her son David “Butch” and wife Peg Bruce of Hastings, Iowa; Kay and husband Michael Glynn of Walker, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, extended relatives and friends.

Interment: Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa.

Memorial donations may be directed to Emerson Fire and Rescue or Malvern Volunteer Fire Department.

Kay and families. Mary was such a sweet lady. I always enjoyed visiting with her when she would bring the kids to and from dance, and help with recital. I remember one time when she had Travis, he went one way and the rest of the crew went the other, she put her hand in the air, gave a wink and a smile and said, I’ve got him. Off she went and came back with Travis in tow! Nobody was getting away from her! My thoughts and prayers to you all.
