Mary Anna Hunt

Mary Anna (Parker) Hunt was born on May 12, 1943 in Malvern, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Helen (Stranathan) Parker. Mary Anna entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at her rural Malvern home. Mary Anna was born at home south of Malvern. She attended Country School, Forest R. Chantry Elementary School and graduated from Malvern Community High School with the Class of 1961. On February 29, 1964 she was united in marriage to Galen (Pete) Hunt in Malvern, Iowa. The couple settled in rural Malvern.

In her early years Mary Anna worked at the dime store for Emery DeWitt, Mills County Extension Office and later as a custodian for the United Methodist Church, cleaning houses and babysitting. Her most cherished job was as a wife, mother and proud grandmother.

Mary Anna was a lifetime member of the Malvern United Methodist church where she served as secretary, Sunday School Superintendent, pianist and UMW Co-Chairwoman. Many will remember the hours she spent volunteering in the kitchen, serving wedding receptions, funeral dinners, and other special church and community events. Mary Anna was also a long time member and leader of 4-H, Blood Drive volunteer, Election Committee member and active participant in the HSC and Pleasant Valley Neighborhood clubs.

Everyone knew that Mary Anna’s greatest achievement and passion was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was always ready to lend a hand or hug to whoever needed it and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. They will all have fond memories of going to grandma’s, where the refrigerator was always stocked with their favorite drinks and a tasty treat was almost assuredly on the counter. And the entire family will forever remember her famous Chocolate Fudge Cake that has been a birthday staple in the Hunt family for years.

Mary Anna is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Helen Parker, and her brother, Gary Parker. Those left to cherish her memory include husband of 48 years, Galen Hunt; daughter, Kimberly Kellison and husband Todd; son, Kevin Hunt and friend Jane Bergantzel; and daughter; Kara Coberly and husband Nathan. Survivors also include nine beloved grandchildren; Derek and Alex Kellison, Andrew, Makayla and Elissa Hunt, Wyatt, Helene, Lilian and Charlotte Coberly, other relatives and many friends.

Interment will be held in the East Liberty Cemetery, Malvern, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established.

What a shock to hear Kim’s message on the answering machine. Mary Anna was like the sister I never had. We will be with you on Saturday for sure, not sure about Friday night. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Mary Anna was beloved by the First Baptist Church. She came to our church many times to play the piano along with her daughter on the organ. Her sweet nature added much to the spirit of the services. God’s comfort to the family.
