Lynnette Kay Dunn

Celebration of Life: Monday, January 29, 2024, 2:00 P.M., Grace United Methodist Church, 112 N. Walnut Street, Glenwood, Iowa, Pastor Kimberly Bowles will be officiating.

Lynnette Dunn, 75, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away January 23, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born July 8, 1948, in Fairfield, Iowa and was the daughter of Rex and Eleanor (Beatty) Strait. Lynnette graduated from Van Buren County High School and went on to attend the State College of Iowa, which became the University of Northern Iowa during her tenure. Lynnette taught music early in her career before heading back to school to earn an additional degree in Special Education. Lynnette used her teaching degrees while in Glenwood, Iowa where she worked in the Glenwood school systems from 1993 until her retirement in 2012.

A devoted and loving grandmother, mother, and daughter, Lynnette dedicated her life to serving God, her family, and others. On any Sunday, she could be found playing the organ, accompanying on the piano, leading the church choir, and embarrassing her children by singing a bit too joyfully during the hymns. She encouraged multitudes of budding musicians while teaching piano and vocal lessons for more years than we can count. In her personal time, she enjoyed reading, napping, well harmonized musical performances, and attending almost every sporting, academic, and music event her children competed and participated in during their elementary, high school, and college careers.

Lynnette was preceded in death by her parents and brother Darrell. Surviving are her four children, daughter Marsha (Paul) Talley of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; her sons Brian (Jaime) Dunn of Moraga, California; Scott (Jackie) Dunn of Ankeny, Iowa; and Andrew (Amanda) Dunn of Newport News, Virginia. Her grandchildren Sawyer Talley, Caitlyn and Haley Michelson, Alex and Kate Dunn and Ellie Dunn, brother Marvin (Doris) Strait of Keosauqua, Iowa as well as her sister-in-law Susan Strait of Bolivar, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Grace United Methodist Church of Glenwood 112 North Walnut Street, Glenwood, Iowa 51534.

Interment will be in Pittsburg Cemetery in Van Buren County, Iowa at a later date.

Lynnette was a fine lady who always was wearing an endearing smile. I enjoyed our friendship we shared as our children grew up together. Her children are testimonials to what a great mother she was.
