William “Bill” Stanley Murphy, son of Glenn and Elsie Murphy, was born in Los Angeles, California on July 2, 1949. Bill was raised in Des Moines, Iowa and attended Lincoln High School. Bill was united in marriage to Linda Crawford on December 14, 1968. The couple made their home in Glenwood, Iowa where they raised their three children: Jeffrey (Joyce) Murphy of Council Bluffs, IA, Tricia (Bruce) Pearson of Harlan, IA and Michelle Murphy-Grimstad of Council Bluffs, IA.

Bill will be remembered for the enduring love he had for his wife of 50 years, Linda (Crawford). The couple always showed us what the definition of true love and soulmates meant. You always knew if you saw Linda, Bill was never far behind. Bill worked at Mid America Power Plant for 30 years as a Control Room Operator. After retirement, he went to work at Creighton University’s Public Safety Department as a Dispatcher for five years. Bill was always proud of his garden of flowers and took great care in making sure they were more beautiful the following year. He also loved watching all the birds and wildlife in his backyard. He loved the outdoors and fishing, especially trying to catch a big Northern Pike in Minnesota. Bill loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bill had many family pets throughout the years and special memories of each one. He loved watching football and was looking forward to the Iowa Hawkeyes and Cyclones season starting soon.

He died surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 10, 2018 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa attaining the age of sixty-nine years, one month and eight days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry and Eric Murphy and other beloved extended family members and friends.

Bill has left to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years, Linda of Glenwood, Iowa; their three children: Jeffrey (Joyce) Murphy of Council Bluffs, IA, Tricia (Bruce) Pearson of Harlan, IA and Michelle Murphy-Grimstad of Council Bluffs, IA. 8 grandchildren & step grandchildren, Brother: Bob (Katie) Murphy, Sister: Glenda Murphy (Carl Ernst) along with many extended family members and friends who he cherished dearly.

Private Interment Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

So sorry to hear of Uncle Bill’s passing. He was always so nice and encouraging to me, but he could also cut it up with his siblings and make everyone laugh. I miss seeing all those Murphy boys picking on each other and cracking up. Prayers for comfort and peace for you all.
