Rex Hoops, 71 of Tabor, Iowa, formerly of Glenwood, Iowa, passed away March 1, 2026. Rex was born on August 21, 1954 near Lucas, Iowa to Orville and Frances (Wilburn) Hoops.
Rex lived by the idea that a stranger was just another friend. He had a unique gift for making people smile and was always ready for a good meal and a great adventure. He enjoyed working in the yard, riding his bicycle, and spent countless hours immersed in puzzles, word searches, and drawing.
Rex approached life full-throttle and with a wide grin, often attending drag races near Pacific Junction, IA. He always looked forward to visiting his nephew, Damon, who shared laughter over the roar of a muscle car revving, drifting, and doing burnouts. Rex enjoyed traveling all over the US in the semi-truck with his brother Mike. One of his favorite memories was their impromptu snowball fight on Donner Pass in California—a moment that captured his playful heart perfectly.
Rex’s legacy is one of laughter, kindness, and a reminder to find the fun in every single day.
Rex was preceded by his parents; survivors include his brother Michael (Pam) Hoops, Sr.; nephews, Damon (Nita) Hoops and Michael Hoops, Jr.; nieces, Michelle “Chelle” Francavilla and LaTisha Hough.
Interment, Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa.
