Nellie (Godfrey) Burgoin

Nellie Charlotte (Godfrey) Burgoin, 85 of Glenwood, formerly of Silver City, Iowa entered into eternal rest on March 26, 2006 at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. She was born February 13, 1921 in Silver City, Iowa to Walter Frank and Elsie Rowena (Baugh) Godfrey. Nellie was raised on a farm northeast of Silver City and was confirmed in the Lone Star Church. She later became a member of the Silver City United Methodist Church and graduated from Silver City High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Clarence Ward Burgoin on April 4, 1942. It was the first marriage ceremony celebrated in the new Silver City Methodist Church. The couple had two children, Robert Walter and Catherine Ann. The family resided on a farm northeast of Silver City.

Nellie was a faithful member of Silver City United Methodist Church and Charter member of Silver City Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a member of the Extension Family Living Council and local and county 4-H leader. After moving to Glenwood, she became a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was active in U.M.W. Her chicken noodles were highly sought after at the local church bazaars and she was also known for her delicious cinnamon rolls and other dishes she made for her family and friends. She was active in the Glenwood Garden Club and always enjoyed her beautiful flowers and wildlife they attracted. Christmas was Nellie’s favorite holiday and her home was filled with decorations in every room. She shared her many talents and love with her family and will be greatly missed.

Preceding Nellie in death were her parents, husband Clarence on May 9, 1999 and brother Robert Godfrey. She is survived by her son, Bob and wife Kris Burgoin of Silver City, Iowa; daughter, Cathy Burgoin of Lincoln, NE; 4 grandchildren; Stacy Burgoin of Glenwood, IA; Jennifer Comer of New Market, IA; Kenny Murdock of Council Bluffs, IA; Wendy Reeves of Council Bluffs, IA; 5 great-grandchildren; Alana Reeves and Austin Reeves of Council Bluffs, IA; Timothy Snyder of Glenwood, IA; Noah Robert Comer and Nick Comer of New Market, IA; brother, Don and wife Ruby Godfrey of Emerson, IA; cousin/nephew; Don and wife Margaret Burgoin of Silver City, IA; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
