Nancy Criswell, 78 of Glenwood, Iowa passed away December 24, 2025.
Nancy Ethel Criswell was born on March 26, 1947, in Hartford, Connecticut to Walter “Red” Curtiss and Helen Mary (Kamay) Curtiss. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Connie Criswell, her beloved Grandmother Ethel Wheeler Curtiss, brother Jeff Curtiss, sister-in-law Donna Eckles, nieces Beth Wilson and Jennifer Tardiff, nephews Jeff Wilson, Dan Weins and David Russell. She is survived by her husband, Steve Criswell of Glenwood; daughter Mindy Asmussen Saak (Rob) of Granger, Iowa; daughter Anne Criswell, Glenwood; granddaughter Mikayla Clark (Carson); grandson Joshua Saak (Emma); granddaughter Molly Ehrlich; granddaughter Aleah Saak; great-granddaughter Olivia Joy Saak; sisters Gail Grimaldi (Jimmie) of Somersville, Connecticut; Claire Piurkowski of Haven, Kansas; Maureen Curtiss, Florida; brother-in-law Ken Eckles and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy lived in Glenwood since December 1972. She and her husband Steve (aka Paul or Hawkeye) were married on December 26, 1976. They enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye Football and Basketball and attending family gatherings. She worked for Mills County Department of Human Services for 27 years as a caseworker for Family Investment Program, food stamps and Title 19 medical. She thoroughly enjoyed her work, and her main goal was to help her clients as much as possible and treat them with respect and understanding. Once retired, she volunteered at Mills County Storehouse and Food Pantry. She loved working with the public and it was her hope that she made lives brighter.
Nancy enjoyed her children as they grew and attended their numerous activities. She also enjoyed bowling, reading, watching her favorite TV shows, shopping – especially finding unique shops; and researching subjects that interested her. As many a friend or family member would tell you, she was quick to give advice from Consumer Reports, “Eat This, Not That”, as well as laundry tips. She loved animals and children and cared deeply about their well-being. Her husband once stated that he prayed she never saw a stray elephant because she would try her best to adopt it. She also loved many genres of music, garage sales, and she loved to brag about a good sale buy. Above all else, she loved her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she loved each one equally. She was also excited to hold the title of great-grandmother!
Interment: Malvern Cemetery, Malvern, Iowa.
Memorial Donations have been designated to: Glenwood Public Library or Mills County Storehouse.
