MEMORIALS: First Congregational U.C.C. or Glenwood Public Library

INTERMENT: Glenwood Cemtetery Glenwood, Iowa

Morris Charles Terry, 88 of Glenwood, Iowa entered into eternal rest on October 4, 2006 in Glenwood, Iowa. He was born May 12, 1918 north of Pacific Junction, to Alvie Morris and Emilie Charlotte (Gress) Terry. He was raised on the family farm north of Pacific Junction and attended country schools and later Glenwood High School graduating with the Class of 1936.

Morris married Anna Margaret Wiles on March 31, 1940 in rural Glenwood, Iowa. To this union seven children were born: Nancy Margaret, Morris Dean, Rosalie Charlotte, Dolores Anne, Edith Emilie, Richard Charles and Ray Alan.

He spent the first year of their marriage on the Terry family farm north of Pacific Junction, part of the farm is now where the Rest Area on I-29 is located. They lived on the Dean Homestead for the next couple of years and moved to a farm they purchased at Henderson until 1959. It was during this time in addition to farming they raised watermelons and muskmelons and he followed his father’s footsteps who was known as the “Melon Man”.

In 1959, they moved back to the Dean Homestead where they built a new home in 1974. He was extremely active in Terry’s Evergreen Valley Nursery. Morris was very knowledgeable in the planting and caring for our trees. He loved his trees and when driving through the county with him, he would point to all the many trees he planted. They were truly his passion. He traded some trees for the goldfish at the Henry Doorly Zoo, where he supplied and planted most of the evergreens there. The Glenwood area has also been beautified by the many trees that Morris proudly planted throughout the past. He was the Mills County Weed Commissioner for many years.

Margaret and Morris retired from farming and moved to Council Bluffs, where they stayed with his mother at her home until she passed away in 1986. They returned to Glenwood and purchased a home on North Walnut Street and was best known for the circle of flowers he carefully tended to each summer.

Preceding Morris in death were his parents, Alvie and Emilie Terry, and brother Don Terry. He is survived by his wife Anna Margaret Terry of Glenwood, IA; children, Nancy & husband Dyle Downing of Glenwood, IA; M.
