Max Lincoln Stonebraker

Max Lincoln Stonebraker, 94, of Stanton, Iowa, formerly of Henderson, Glenwood, and Red Oak, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on June 6, 2008 at the Stanton Care Center. He was born on the Stonebraker family farm three miles West of Henderson on November 3, 1913 To Sherman and Bess (Markel) Stonebraker. Dr. William Craig drove his horse and buggy to the house to deliver Max and stopped twice following the delivery to see how Max and his mother were getting along. The charges for the delivery were $20.00 at that time.

Max attended Fair View Country School his first year and the following eleven years at the Henderson Consolidated School, graduating in 1931. Max was baptized in the Henderson United Methodist Church on Mother’s Day in 1953 by the Rev. Charles Likely. During WWII, he was a member of the State Guard Company in Glenwood, Iowa. He attended the 2nd Inaugural parade of President Eisenhower on January 21, 1957.

Max was a member of the Henderson Community Fire Department for over twenty years, in which ten years he served as the Fire Chief. He was a member of the Firemen Association and the Farm Bureau.

On September 2, 1978, Max was united in marriage to Geneva Susan (Richardson) Wise at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Clyde Harmon. Although Max remained a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church, he faithfully attended the First Baptist Church since his marriage as long as his health permitted.

Preceding Max in death were his parents, wife Geneva on Jan. 6, 2007, sisters, Jo Ann Adkins and Freda Beasley. He is survived by his step-daughter, Lesta and husband Harold Kahl of Hastings, Iowa; step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John & wife Jacki Adkins of Carthage, Illinois; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
