Lyle James Sell

Lyle Sell passed away on December 1, 2021, at Prairie Gate Senior Living Community in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Lyle was born January 18, 1929, in Mills County to Len and Blanche Sell. He attended Reasoner School and later graduated from Glenwood High School in 1946.

On October 12, 1947, he married Joan Burchett and to that union three children were born: Randy Sell (wife Heidi) of Omaha, Nebraska, Suzie Lemonds (husband Neal) of Omaha, Nebraska and Larry Sell of Marshalltown, Iowa.

Lyle was instrumental in building Schroeder Packing Company in Glenwood, Iowa and worked there for ten years. He then operated a John Deere dealership in Randolph, Iowa and later managed Farm Aid Service Company in Silver City, Iowa. Before retiring in 1990, he worked at Vinton Fertilizer & Equipment.

Lyle served on Mills County Bank Board of Directors for 30 years and has been a member of the First Congregational Church in Glenwood since 1948. He was a member of the Glenwood Masonic Lodge #58 for 50 years.

Lyle enjoyed family, friends & neighbors and delivering Meals on Wheels after retirement.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, sister Wilma Jens (Ervin), brothers Don Sell (wife Bernice), Leonard (Tip) Sell (wife Vonnie), Glen Sell (wife Jean), Lawrence Sell (wife Doris) and brothers-in-law; Ervin Jens, Clint Goos and Gene Kennedy.

Survivors include two sisters; Dorothy Kennedy of Des Moines, Iowa and Betty Goos of Council Bluffs, Iowa, three children, nine grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Interment, Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa.

Memorial donations may be direct to First Congregational U.C.C. in Glenwood, Iowa.

    thinking of lyle makes me smile always had joke and one of the best story tellers ever the world needs more men like him he will be missed
