John Elexis Stearns, 81 of Glenwood, Iowa formerly of Benedict, Nebraska entered into rest on January 5, 2018 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born on April 13, 1936 in Gering, Nebraska to Elexis and Ethel A. (Shafer) Stearns. John faithfully served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.
John was united in marriage to Leanor “Toots” Lulow on April 4, 1955 in Alliance, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with seven children. John was employed as a truck driver and later worked for the State of Nebraska in the Maintenance Department. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed tinkering on cars and lawn mowers. He could figure out how to fix just about everything. John enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.
Preceding John in passing were his parents, wife, siblings, Bob Stearns, Willy Stearns, William Stearns, Tom Stearns and Virgil Stearns. Survivors include his children, Debra North of Lincoln, Nebraska; Kenneth Stearns of Durango, Colorado; Earl Scott Stearns of Lincoln, Nebraska; William E. (Natasha) Stearns of Franklin, Nebraska; Jodie E. (Tim) Hahn of Glenwood, Iowa; Darla L. (Scott) Jorgenson of Beresford, South Dakota; Scott Stearns of Glenwood, Iowa; sister, Janice (John) Tilley of Genoa, Nebraska; brothers, Jim (Donna) Stearns of Benedict, Nebraska and Don (Dee) Stearns of Kansas; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and friends.
Interment with military honors will be held in the Glenwood Cemetery following the service.
