Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One for over 100 years.

Sara Suzanne Sell

Following the Celebration of Life, the family will receive friends for fellowship and refreshments in Kaufman Hall at Holy Rosary Church. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Sara Sell Memorial Fund at Glenwood State Bank.

Sara Suzanne Sell, 21, of Glenwood, IA, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 4, 2010 in Riverside, IA. She was born May 15, 1989 in Omaha, NE to Steven Charles and Shannon Colleen (Pierce) Sell. She was raised on the family farm between Mineola and Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School in 2008.

Throughout high school, Sara was very involved in basketball, soccer, FCCLA, 4H, FFA, NPCLA, NJSA, Trinity Lutheran Youth Group, County Council and Teen Club. She was actively involved in raising and exhibiting livestock with her family and traveled across the country showing pigs.

In college, Sara worked as a nurse’s aide and played intramural sports. She was studying pre-nursing and hoped to go into pediatrics. Above all else, Sara loved spending time with her family, friends and her beloved dog, Sydney. She loved cheering on the Hawks, mostly to egg on the Cyclone fans! Sara continued to go to livestock shows and enjoyed spending time with her boyfriend, Micah. Her enthusiasm for life and ability to make friends easily left a huge impact on the people she met. She was a hard worker with a competitive spirit, which made her successful in everything she set her heart and mind to achieve. The constant smile on her face let everyone know she was ready and willing to lend a hand. She was never afraid to be goofy in order to make others feel at ease. Sara’s sense of humor, kindness and strong moral character will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched.

Preceding Sara in death were her paternal grandparents, Duane and Ruth Sell; maternal grandfather, Norman Pierce and infant twin brothers, Zack and Dustin. She is survived by her parents, Steve & wife Judy Sell of Glenwood, IA; Shannon Sell of Glenwood, IA & fianc̩ Stephen Rubes of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters, Shari & husband Jarrod Bakker & their son, Caeden of Dike, IA; Samantha & husband Tanner Winter of Platte City, MO; grandmother, Colleen Pierce of Malvern, IA; boyfriend, Micah Harmsen of Keota, IA; aunts, uncles, cousins, extended relatives and a host of friends.

She was a kind soul who shared her knowledge (about showing swine)freely with our boys Parker and Grant at the Mills County Fair. Our hearts ache for all of you and we will keep you close in our thoughts and prayers during these difficult times ahead.

  • Heather Mills Posted September 6, 2010 12:00 am

I was absolutely heartbroken to learn of Sara’s passing. When I think of her, I remember a little girl with curls, trailing after her two big sisters. All the days I babysat, I remember that she was her happiest if we were outside swinging, looking at the animals, swimming. She had such a beautiful spirit, and although I didn’t know her as well as an adult, I know that she was thought of as an outstanding young lady. You should be so proud to have raised her, and known her. I know I am. I pray that your family may find peace…please let us know if we can help in anyway. All my love.

  • Kel Prikaszczikow & Keri Anne Schoening Posted September 7, 2010 12:00 am

    Shannon,Steve, Shari, Sammi & family….

We were so shocked to hear about Sara. We just could not fathom that such a bright little spirit was taken away from you. We always liked to believe that everything happens for a reason and although the reason is not clear at the this time, it will come later. It is such a horrific loss for a parent to lose a child as we always think the parents will go first and it is just not in the “natural order” of things for the child to go first. There is no rhyme or reason for why these awful tragedies happen & no words that we could say that will make you feel better. We can though, tell you that we are thinking about you and hope you are able to find your way through this very painful time. Sara was very special in life & will be in spirit, as well.

  • Sophie Fajardo Posted September 7, 2010 12:00 am
