Norma Viola (Shaul) Thieschafer, 91, of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on September 7, 2008 at Linnwood Estates in Glenwood, Iowa. She was born May 21, 1917 in Strahan, Iowa to Robert and Lovena (Weatherly) Shaul. Norma was raised in Strahan where she graduated from Strahan Consolidated School in 1934. She continued her education at Red Oak Jr. College earning a teaching degree in 1936.

She accepted a teaching position at the Glenwood State Hospital School where she taught for 12 years. During a summer break, Norma and one of her friends moved to Hollywood where she worked in retail. Norma was united in marriage to Arthur John Thieschafer on July 28, 1945 in Hernando, Mississippi. To this union two children were born, Gary and Tamara. Although Norma dearly loved her job, she decided to stay home to raise her family following Gary’s birth. She was very active in the Grace United Methodist Church and U.M.W. Norma was also involved in the Rural Improvement Club, Beta Sigma Phi, Friends of the Library, 4-H Legion Auxiliary and was a strong supporter of the Republican Party. She attended the state convention in Cedar Rapids where she had her photo taken with former President Ronald Reagan. Norma loved to go shopping and out to eat. In her early years, she shared memories of going to the Kandy Kitchen on the south side of the square to visit with her friends. She and Art also enjoyed square dancing in the late 1940’s and would go to Omaha each week with several other couples. Norma loved her family, especially her grandchildren and attended as many activities they were involved in as possible. She would like to be remembered for her friendliness and always trying to do the best that she could. Anyone who knew and loved Norma would agree that she definitely accomplished her goal.

Preceding Norma in death were her parents and husband Art on March 8, 2004. She is survived by her children, Gary & wife Diane Thieschafer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Tamara & husband Steven Roenfeldt of Glenwood, Iowa; grandchildren, Nicole & husband Steven Kline of Howell, Michigan; Troy Thieschafer, Tennille & husband Nick Atherton; Todd Thieschafer all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Clint & wife Sherri Roenfeldt of Glenwood, Iowa; Carissa Roenfeldt of Council Bluffs, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Griffin, Elizabeth and Ty Kline; Lauren and Taylor Roenfeldt; sister, Helen Fisher of Glenwood, Iowa; sister-in-law, Christine Cole of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother-in-law, Arnold Kiersch of Red Oak, Iowa; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
