Max Eugene Vinton, 96, of Malvern, IA, entered into eternal rest on February 3, 2008 in Council Bluffs, IA. He was born March 5, 1911 to Samuel Eugene and Jeanette (Hubbard) Vinton in Mills County, IA. He attended Old Pacific and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1929.

Shortly after graduation, he began farming and on January 15, 1937, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Cunningham of Tabor, IA and their married life was spent on farms in the Tabor area. They became the parents of three children, Gary, Patricia and Karen. Carolyn passed away on April 29, 1969, and on December 11, 1976, he was married to Janice Horton Johnson of Glenwood, IA.

Max farmed and fed cattle for many years and always worked long, hard hours with most days starting at 4:30 a.m. and ending late at night. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge. After retiring in the late 1980’s, he stayed busy taking care of his acreage and continued mowing the yard as recently as last summer.

He loved spending time with his family and looked forward to family gatherings. He especially enjoyed visiting with his many grandchildren.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carolyn, brother Marvin and wife Francaes, sister Janice Vinton Myers and husband Durwood Myers, and sister-in-law Katherine Miller. He is survived by his wife Janice Vinton of Malvern, IA; son Gary & wife Linda Vinton of Malvern, IA; daughters Patricia & husband Marty McCartney of Sidney, IA; Karen & husband Harold Holloway of Omaha, NE; Janice’s sons Lee Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; Max Johnson of Bellfouche, S.D.; Eric & wife Leida of Glenwood, IA; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, one niece, three nephews, and many friends and relatives.
