Lucile Cynthia Phelps Jones

Lucille Cynthia Phelps was born Febr. 11, 1905, Glenwood, IA. Her parents were George Alfred Phelps and Cynthia Ann Miller Phelps. She received her education at Little Brick country school; Glenwood High School, graduating 1923. She attended Tabor College, Tabor, IA for 2 yrs. In 1925-26 she taught in Reasoner School, Glenwood, IA. She attended Iowa State College summer 1926; then Simpson College, Indianola, IA, graduating with a B.A. in Home Economics in Dec. 1927. She was a member of Lamba Chi Alpha, Mu Chapter at Simpson College. On March 7, 1928, she was united in marriage to Myron C. Jones in Glenwood on her parents farm. To this union two children were born, Eleanor and Roger. They lived on this farm for 58 years, celebrating their 50th anniversary at Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood. In 1986, they moved to Camlu Retirement Apts. In Pendleton, Oregon to be near their daughter. Myron passed away July 21, 1989 in Pendleton. Lucille continued to live in the apartment until ill health and moved to Juniper Assisted Living for 3 yrs., then to Amber Valley Care Center for 1 å_ yrs. Until moving to Odebolt Nursing & Rehab Center in July of 2000, where she remained until her death.

She was baptized at Hillsdale Methodist Church where she was an active member and pianist until the mid 1950’s and later became a member of Grace United Methodist in Glenwood. She taught Sunday School for many years. Lucille was a member of Rural Improvement Club, Women’s Missionary Society and a 74 yr. Member of Chapter Mu at Simpson College. She was an active Farm Bureau member, homemaker, accompanist for Eleanor and Roger and an excellent seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and two brothers. Lucille is survived by her children Eleanor & husband Dale Rosenquist of Pendleton, Oregon; Roger & wife Linda Jones of Truckee, CA; brother Walter & wife Geneva Phelps of Prescott, AZ; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials may be directed to Hillsdale Methodist Church or Grace United Methodist Church.
