Joseph Richard Blankenship

Joseph Richard Blankenship, 79 of Glenwood, Iowa passed away May 14, 2013 after a brief illness. Joe was born September 28, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska to Joseph & Margaret (Sutej) Blankenship.

Joe graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs and was a retired businessman. He was united in marriage to Marian Delores Fost on August 14, 1954. To this union five children were born, Doug, Russ, Randy, Mike and Betsy. He served in the Air National Guard and most recently on the Board of Supervisors for Mills County Iowa after selling his Crown Rubber Products and Glenwood Feed and Seed businesses. Joe became an ordained deacon on February 14, 1988 and served at Holy Rosary Parish in Glenwood, Iowa. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle & friend.

Preceding Joe in death were his parents, wife Marian on December 20, 2011, 3 sisters, 1 brother and 1 infant grandson. He is survived by his children, Doug (Dian) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Russ Blankenship, Randy (Jacque) Blankenship, Mike (Colleen) Blankenship all of Glenwood, Iowa; Betsy (Mike) Larrison of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, sisters, Pauline & Jean and sister-in-law Joan (Gary) Belt of Wentzville, Missouri, extended relatives and many friends.

Interment will be held in the Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

    I met Joe through county business. What a great man, it was a pleasure to work and visit with him.

    So sorry for your loss. He will be missed by many.

    Joe was always so positive and an asset when we

    met in Des Moines for ISAC schooling. I was surprised and saddened to her of his passing.

    I just found out about Joe’s passing. On behalf of the Iowa Mediation Service, our oondolences go out to Joe’s family on your loss.
