John Stanley “Jack” Williams, 82 of Glenwood, Iowa entered into rest on April 13, 2018 at Linnwood Estates in Glenwood. He was born on November 1, 1935 in Hastings, Iowa to Archer George and Ethel Gladys (Snipes) Williams. Jack was united in marriage to Patricia Anne White on January 26, 1957 in Malvern, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Steven and Susan.

Jack was a Car Salesman by trade; but a Fisherman and Woodworker by choice.  He had the uncanny ability to find the “fishing hole” that was producing; could build or restore just about anything he put his mind to!  He proudly served his country in the National Guard from 1958 to 1965.  Jack was known to family and neighbors as the animal whisperer to a variety of animals. He had a gentle nature about him and dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Preceding Jack in passing were his parents, Archer G (A.G./Shorty) and Ethel Williams; wife, Patricia A. Williams; siblings and in-laws, Robert Williams, Donald (Pete) Williams; Doris and Bob Leuzinger; Louise and Jim Irvin; Maxine and Lyle Norris; Leo and Leah White; Lorraine and Wilber Wendt; Norma and Gordon Schultz; Lowell McCunn; Billie White; Robert and Sally White; Ruth Scheel; Jim White; John White and Linda Foote.

Survivors include children, Steven (Kim) Williams of Glenwood, Iowa; Susan (Jay) Shipley of San Antonio, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Katie (Paul) Cook of Akron, Pennsylvania; Megan Hutchinson of Clarksburg, Maryland; Derrin Williams of Glenwood, Iowa; Nick Hutchinson of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchild, Brody Cook of Akron, Pennsylvania; in-laws, Edith Williams of Columbus, Ohio; Anne Williams of Bremerton, Washington; Bettie McCunn of Indianola, Iowa; Wayne and Ann White of Elkhart, Iowa; Mary and Bob Jones of Red Oak, Iowa; Charles and Denise White of Coin, Iowa; Shirley White of Omaha, Nebraska; Doug Foote of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be directed to Loess Hills Maker Space, Glenwood, Iowa and Glen Haven Village Building fund, Glenwood, Iowa.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.

I grew up on the corner of 4th and Myrtle street a block east of Jack’s childhood home. During our early years we were good friends. Jack introduced me to fishing in Glenwood Lake Park and Keg Creek. One day we while were fishing at Keg Creek I fell off of a drainage pipe into the creek. Jack grabbed me and pulled me to safety. So it is certainly possible that he saved my life. At that time I did not know how to swim. On several occasions I visited his home to enjoy the oil paintings that his father produced. Jack and I often ran to and from school at East elementary during lunch time. As the years passed we created new friendships and drifted apart. I express my sincere and deep sadness for the death of Jack. As president of the high school class of 1954 I wish to offer sincere condolences from those classmates who fondly remember Jack.

My sincerest sympathies to Jack’s family and friends. If I remember correctly, I am sure there were times that he and my father did some fishing together. I will always remember Jack teaching about how to change a tire in Driver’s Education class. He was a very special man in my world and may he be greeted with open arms and love in the greater beyond from all those who are there to greet him. Hugs!
