James W. Knisely

James W. Knisely, 81 of Lincoln, passed away Dec. 30, 2014. He was born in Topeka, KS on Jan. 24, 1933 to Hugh L. & Marguerite (Dodds) Knisely. Jim was a retired U.S. Army Veteran. He was united in marriage to DeLoris Jackson, daughter of Max & Edna Jackson on June 13, 1954. Jim received his BA degree from the Univ. of NE Lincoln majoring in accounting & graduated in the upper 10 % of his class. For nearly 20 years Jim served as an accountant, cost manager, planning specialist & manager of financial analysis for General Electric Co. in Louisville, KY; Syracuse, NY & Cleveland, OH. In 1972, he came to UNL to become its manager of operations analysis. He moved to the position of assistant comptroller in 1974, moving to comptroller in 1977. His job, essentially, was to keep on top of the total budgetary activity at UNL, a position he held until his retirement in 1995. Jim will be remembered most for his devotion to his family & his kindness & generosity of spirit toward everyone he met. He could brighten anyone’s day & did. Family members include his wife, DeLoris; daughter, Susan Knisely & son-in-law, William Duly; grandson, Ian Duly; brother-in-law, Al Swanson; niece & nephew. Preceded in death by parents & sister, Anita Swanson. Graveside Services will be held Wed. May 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery

    Jim was a friend to all, a very intelligent kind person who you felt comfortable with the first moment you met him. Jim was a special person who made your day more enjoyable every time you met with him.
