J.W. Abercrombie, Sr.

J.W. Abercrombie, Sr. 79 of Glenwood, IA entered into eternal rest on April 3, 2013 in Council Bluffs, IA. He was born on June 23, 1933 in Marshall County, Alabama to Joseph Weaver & Maggie L. (Williams) Abercrombie. J.W. was raised in Guntersville, Alabama. He faithfully served his country for 3 years in the Army and 20 years in the Air Force. J.W. was employed with the Glenwood Resource Center as a nurse, RTW and had previously worked at Mercy Hospital in the E.R. as well as providing his services as an E.M.T. for the Glenwood Rescue Squad.

J.W. was united in marriage to Linda Ann Williams on April 26, 1988. They enjoyed their combined family gatherings and he especially loved the outdoors and fishing. He had traveled to Canada & Minnesota on several occasions. J.W. was a member of the Omaha Fish & Wildlife Club.

Preceding J.W. in death were his parents and 7 siblings. He is survived by his wife Linda of Glenwood, IA; children, J.W. Abercrombie, Jr. of Malvern, IA; Laura Cathleen Gregory of Gurley, AL; David Clyde Abercrombie of Virginia Beach, VA; Cara Gail Kriegshauser of Glenwood, IA; step-children, Kerry Donald Strong of Villisca, IA: Laurie Ann Wiggins of Omaha, NE; Bryon Duane Strong of Chapman, NE; Barry Eugene Strong of Glenwood, IA; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

Interment will be held in the Silver City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Glenwood Y.

    Our deepest sympathy are with you, in this greatest hour, J W was one of the BEST in our lives, he always loved playing cards and looking forward to going fishing. GOD Bless!

    Abe and I served together in the 55th at Offutt AFB in the 60s and 70s. We were buddies form that time on. I will miss that smile on his face every time we met. God bless you my friend.
