Harriet Leona Hineline, 92, of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on March 17, 2009 at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. She was born September 4, 1916 on a farm near Madelia, Minnesota to Roscoe D. and Nora (Harris) Hineline. Leona had two brothers, Jameas and Harlond. When she was about three years old, the family moved back to Iowa to farm four miles west of Percival, Iowa. She was raised and spent her childhood there and attended Richetts Country Grade School. In1935, she graduated from Sidney High School.

She moved to Shenandoah, Iowa where she was employed in the office of Peerless Laundry. It was in Shenandoah that she met and married Johnnie Helms in 1938. The couple relocated to Clarinda in 1939. On February 4, 1940, daughter Connie was born. The family moved to Glenwood and in May of 1944 began their career in the restaurant business for many years. Leona had her own business, The West Side CafÌ© from 1957-63. She helped open the new Holiday Inn in Red Oak, Iowa and worked at Walgreens in Council Bluffs, Iowa for 8 years and later at Penney’s. She then came back to Glenwood in 1979.

Leona belonged to the I.O.O.F. Rebekah Lodge in Glenwood for 32 years and held Noble Grand twice and attended state conventions. She was a member of the First Congregational U.C.C. in Glenwood and did R.S.V.P. work for many years and helped with the Blood Mobile.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents, brother, James and Harlond Hineline and son-in-law Bob Harms.

She is survived by her daughter Connie Harms of Glenwood, Iowa; 4 grandchildren James (Jacque) of North Platte, Nebraska; Tim (Criss) Harms of Glenwood, Iowa; Chelon (Brian) Fichter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Anissa Harms of Glenwood, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson and a host of friends.
