Florence Evelyn Wilhelm, 94 of Hastings, IA entered into eternal rest on Jan. 15, 2013 in Red Oak, IA. She was born Sept. 15, 1918 in Anderson Township in Mills County, IA. She was the oldest daughter of Charles and Hazel (Mayberry) Wilhelm. Florence was raised in Mills County and went to school at the Box Elder Country School, then graduated from Malvern High School in 1936.
Florence taught at several country schools for 8 years. After teaching, she returned home to help her parents on the farm. She enjoyed cooking, canning & gardening.
Florence & her brother Bud took several vacations to the Ozarks. They lived together on the home place until they could no longer care for each other. They then moved to the Red Oak Rehab & Care Center.
Preceding Florence in death were her parents, Charles & Hazel Wilhelm; sister, Dorothy Darby; brother-in-law, Estle Darby and brother, Charles “Bud Wilhelm. Survivors include many cousins, neighbors and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Malvern Fire & Rescue.
Interment will be held in the Malvern Cemetery.
