Evelyn Adaline Olszewski

Evelyn Adaline Olszewski, the fourth of six children born to Margaret F. (Lyons) & Frank T. Kemmet, Jr. was born on June 6, 1911 in West Hoboken, New Jersey. At an early age Evelyn’s family relocated to Jersey City, where she attended school and went to work.

Evelyn & Clemens John Olszewski were married on Aug. 25, 1940 in Jersey City. They spent much of their free time with their boating friends. They were continually making improvements on their boats, & then would go fishing & crabbing off the Jersey shore. They also enjoyed watching the New Your Yankees on television. She lived there until 1986, after Clem passed away. She then moved to Glenwood, IA to live with her sister Dorothy Shaw & husband Everett.

Evelyn was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church & helped make craft items for the church bizarre. She bowled & played bingo, but her favorite thing to do was watch the Yankees on television.

Evelyn had resided at Glen Haven Home since Dec. of 2005. She passed away there on Jan. 9, 2013 at the age of 101. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Frank Kemmet & Erwin Kemmet; sisters, Helen Graves, Clara Jankowski & Dorothy Shaw.

Survivors include her brother-in-law, Everett Shaw of Glenwood, IA; nephews, Richard Kemmet of Bayonne, NJ; Roger & wife Kay Shaw of Glenwood, IA & their two daughters, Jill & husband Tony Willms of Griswold, IA: Amy & husband Phil Soergel of Glenwood, IA; extended relatives and many friends. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City, NJ at a later date.
