Earl J. Hatcher

Earl Junior Hatcher entered into the sunrise in rural Mills County, IA on Feb. 28, 1926 to David Earl & Lillie Beatrice (Chambers) Hatcher. He attended rural elementary school, graduating from 8th grade at Hillsdale & Glenwood High School in 1943. He served he faithfully served his country in the Army during WWII & was sent to Germany, France & Belgium.

On Aug. 6, 1944, he married the love of his life, Donna Darlene Decker in Kansas City, KS. After Earl’s honorable discharge from the Army, they made their home in Glenwood, IA. Earl and Donna were blessed with one child, Cheryl Kay. Earl’s greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren who were so important to him.

Earl’s interests were restoring old cars, wood-working, family activities & serving his church. Earl was involved in starting the Optimist Club in Glenwood many years ago. He was also a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3682 in Glenwood & the American Legion Post 141, as well as the First Christian Church in Glenwood.

Earl was instrumental along with his family re-opening the Waubonsie Church south of Glenwood in the late 1940’s. He also helped in the upkeep of the cemetery for over 25 years.

Earl passed into the sunset into the loving arms of his Lord & Savior while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Hospice With Heart in Glenwood, IA at the age of 88 years, 4 months & 15 days.

Preceding Earl in death were his parents, parent-in-laws, Harold & Frances Decker; sister-in-law, Doris Deloma Decker & brother-in-law, Drexel Donald Decker. Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Donna Darlene Hatcher; daughter, Cheryl (Richard, Sr.) Cape all of Glenwood, IA; grandson, Richard, Jr. (Cathy) Cape of Omaha, NE; granddaughter, Melissa (William) Rehn of Glenwood, IA; 4 great-grandchildren, Jared Rehn, Brianna Rehn, Janey Cape, & Richard Cape, III “Trey”.

Interment will be held in the Silver City Cemetery, Silver City, IA.

The family will direct memorials.
