Duane Louis Jurgens, 77, of Glenwood, Iowa entered into eternal rest on June 23, 2005 at his home in Glenwood, Iowa. He was one of four children of Herman Leo and Ruth Marie (Saar) Jurgens born on July 1, 1927 in Mineola, Iowa.
Duane, also known as “Jurgie”, became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood, Iowa, where he was baptized and later confirmed. He attended country school in Mineola until 1941 when the family moved to Glenwood, where Duane graduated with the Class of 1945.
On August 17, 1952, Duane and Lois Jones were united in marriage in Malvern, Iowa. They established their first home in Glenwood where they continued to live together for 52 years. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Valerie, Vanessa, Vonda and Vance.
Duane was employed with Roth Packing House in Glenwood and Omaha for 38 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Glenwood Eagles.
Duane enjoyed life and had several hobbies and interests that he shared with his family and friends. He played baseball and softball for thirty years and loved to fish and take trips with his family. Duane was a St. Louis Cardinal fan from the time he was a young boy. His father took him on a train to attend one of their games. He earned many trophies for bowling and it was always enjoyable to watch Lois and Duane on the dance floor together. They were also skilled horseshoe tournament winners. Duane will be remembered as one of the great mushroom hunters of his time. Feeding the squirrels and birds in their yard always gave Duane pleasure. He also picked up corn in the fields following harvest to sell, as well as share it with his squirrels. Duane enjoyed helping his longtime friend, Randy McMahill with his carpet cleaning business. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
