Anna Mae Schmidt, the third of seven children born to Gertrude Hoting and Harm Reiter, was born October 3, 1925 on the family farm in Little Rock, Iowa. Anna attended school in Ashton, Iowa and on June 10, 1942 married Roger LeRoy Schmidt of Sibley, Iowa. During the War years, Anna and Roger traveled extensively following Roger’s assignment in active duty in the state of Washington. After the war, the couple returned to Iowa. In July of 1951, their marriage was blessed with the birth of their first son, Kevin Dean, in Wadena, Minnesota. During these early years of parenthood, Roger and Anna lived in Northwest Iowa making their home in Cherokee and Sheldon. It was in Sheldon in January 1952 their second son, Michael Ray, was born. In 1957, the couple moved to Cloverdale, Iowa where Anna ran the Cloverdale Country Store, but in 1959 the family moved to San Diego, California. For the next 32 years Anna was a stay at home mom, baby sat for her first grandson, Bradley Allen, worked at the San Diego Union and eventually became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at a Nursing Home near their home. In 1991, after retirement Anna and Roger returned to Iowa and settled in Glenwood to be near family they had left so many years before. While in Glenwood, Anna was able to see her twin grandsons, Eric Michael and Scott Lee, graduate from high school and college. Anna loved family, sewing, crafts, the Red Hatters, people, old fashioned gospel hymns and church. Anna passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after surgery on February 8, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Roger; her sons Kevin and wife Barbara; and Michael and wife Deborah; three grandsons, Brad, Eric and Scott and wife Megan; a great granddaughter (arrival September 2010); sister Ann, brother Keith, in-laws, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Dear Roger, Kevin & Mike, I was so sorry to learn of Mae’s passing. Please know that I am thinking of you at this time. I will always remember the short time in my childhood when we all lived in Cloverdale at the same time. I am still here in this wonderful little village!

    Sending hugs to you Roger!

    Love, Dianne
